Biographical / Historical
F.A. Fischer was born 22 May 1870 at Bad Lausick, Saxony, Germany. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Kilian Church. During his young manhood he was associated with a group of young men who were interested in missions, and at the age of 20 he entered the mission seminary at Barmen. After graduating, he came to the U.S.A. in 1896 and served with the Evangelical Synod of North America, serving in Illinois and St. Louis. He was received into the LCMS by colloquy in 1911. His first call was to St. John's Church in Alma, Kansas. In 1921 he joined Concordia Publishing House. He also preached in German at Zion, St. Louis from 1924 to 1956 as associate pastor, assisting with the Sacrament as well. From 1927 to 1936 he served as radio preacher (in German) over KFUO on the last Sundays of each month. He died 24 January 1937.
On 27 June 1900 he was married to Katherine Steinbreder of St. Louis. This marriage produced two sons, Rev. Theodore A. and Arthur H., and two daughters, Esther and Ruth.
