Scope and Contents
The collection contains notebooks from his student days at Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis, as well as some of Hohenstein's sermons, both from regular church services and from KFUO broadcasts.

Biographical / Historical
Herman Hugo Hohenstein was born on 26 January 1894 in Peoria, Illinois to Reverend Otto L. and Anna Margaretha Sophia (Mennicke) Hohenstein. Herman had ten siblings; four brothers and six sisters.
He attended Concordia College, Milwaukee, Wisconsin for his preparatory education, and graduated from Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis in 1916. He served Immanuel Lutheran Church and Christ Lutheran Church, both Saint Louis, until 1924. He then became the director of radio station KFUO, a position he held until 1954, when he became the supervisor of the KFUO Extension Department.
Herman married Nettie Caroline Dambold on December 27, 1917 in Bloomington, Illinois. Their marriage produced three children; Ruth, Paul, and Robert.
Herman died on 8 May 1961 in Saint Louis, Missouri.
