Beacon Light. KFUO (Westinghouse), 1941 - 1980

 Item
Identifier: MAY 2013 #2 M111

Scope and Contents

This is a KFUO tower beacon light, in two pieces, each made of ridged glass and grey metal, which was used from 1941 until 1980, when it was damaged by lightning. Each part has half of a hinge and half of a bolt assembly that apparently connected the two parts. This was accompanied by an information card (#10) and a display sign with information about the light: what appears to be the base piece is about a 16½” x 14” diameter cylinder, with a shattered red lamp suspended from the top. A cut cable extends from the base (M111a) and the top piece is 16½” x 13” diameter. The the upper glass section is an inverted bowl topped by a metal part and also has a red lamp inside that appears to be intact. The metal has the W Westinghouse symbol in two places (M111b).
