Beacon Light. KFUO (Holophane)

Scope and Contents

This is a small two-piece beacon light from the KFUO Radio tower. Both have been sprayed with white paint. The red dome-shaped section is 6½” x 7¼” diameter (M113a). The clear base is 1⅝” x ½” diameter with an open center and has “HOLOPHANE” and patent numbers embossed around the edge (M113b).

Beacon Light. KFUO (Westinghouse), 1941 - 1980

Scope and Contents This is a KFUO tower beacon light, in two pieces, each made of ridged glass and grey metal, which was used from 1941 until 1980, when it was damaged by lightning. Each part has half of a hinge and half of a bolt assembly that apparently connected the two parts. This was accompanied by an information card (#10) and a display sign with information about the light: what appears to be the base piece is about a 16½” x 14” diameter cylinder, with a shattered red lamp suspended from the top. (MAY 2013 #2 M8) This is a bookmark (9” long) which has a silver open book at the top, an etching of the Good Shepherd on one page and the opening verses of Psalm 23 on the facing page. Below this book is a navy blue fringed sueded-leather strip with a light-blue “KFUO | 1936” imprint.

(MAY 2013 #2 M9; MAY 2013 #2 M10; MAY 2013 #2 M11) These are three tarnished brass bookmarks, roughly triangular (4 ½” long) with images of a cross and microphone, a radio tower, and “REPENT AND BELIEVE THE GOSPEL | KFUO”.

Cart Machine. KFUO (Broadcast Electronics), 1960 - 1990

Scope and Contents This is a Broadcast Electronics Cart Machine (8½” x 15¾” x 5½”) of beige metal (Model 900-3201-001, Serial 42799, 4/88). This has been labeled for use at KFUO as Cart 2, has multiple input/output points on the back, five colored buttons, two toggle switches, one dial and one meter on the front. There is also a slot where a cartridge would be inserted and an electrical cord extends from the back. These were made in sets of three and used in radio from the 1960s through the 1990s computer...

Scope and Contents

This is an electric wall clock (14½” diameter) of dark brown metal. It is a Telechron (Model 1H912) with an attached cord that has been repaired and spliced. A note indicates that every KFUO studio had a clock.

This is a small wooden crucifix on a wooden base (5 1/2”) with a brass “INRI” and corpus. The base has gold-tone paper with “KFUO | St. Louis, Missouri | We Preach Christ Crucified” imprinted in black.

Dirt. Groundbreaking of KFUO Annex, April 27, 1947

Scope and Contents

This is a glass jug (10" x 15" diameter) filled with dirt from the groundbreaking of the annex of KFUO. The jug has a glass and wire lid which is securely closed.

The note on the jug reads:
