Scope and Contents
The majority of materials deal with "The Statement of the Forty-Four." This collection also contains W. H. T. Dau's original manuscript sermon given at the funeral of George Schick. A preliminary inventory is available at CHI.

Biographical / Historical
Edward Friedrich was born on 19 May 1889 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. After attending Concordia College, Fort Wayne, he graduated from Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis in 1912. He served as the assistant pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Saint Charles, Missouri, before going to Saint Paul in Cleveland in 1923. From 1930 to 1940 he was the professor of homiletics at Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis. In 1940 he was called to serve as the superintendent and chaplain of the Lutheran Sanitarium in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. From 1942 to 1949 he was the president of the Colorado District. In 1944 he was appointed the fourth vice-president of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.
