Biographical / Historical
In December 1961, the Mission Board of the Michigan District decided to back a dual parish served by one pastor in the Holly area until the mission field showed more promise for growth. Rev. Arnold Claus was to serve as the temporary pastor of Holly. The opening service was held on January 28, 1962 at the Holly Elementary School. In early 1962, the Mission Board felt that the response was so good in Holly and Duck Lake that two parishes should be created instead of one. In April 1962, the congregation actively started seeking a site to build on. On April 2, candidate Melvin Younger from Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis, Missouri received the call to Holly. He was installed on July 22, 1962.The congregation was incorporated on July 31, 1962. Gethsemane then graciously accepted a charter from the LCMS on September 23, 1962. Construction on a building began in January 1963. This congregation closed in 2006.
