Emil Louis Dinkel was born 17 May 1931 at Marysville, Ohio, the son of Paul William Dinkel, a parochial school teacheer and Della Marie (nee Springer) Dinkel. He graduated from Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis) in 1956. He was pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church (Bronx, New York), 1956-1961, then served in the military chaplaincy from 1961 to 1984. Since his retirement from the Army, he has served as pastor in Arlington, Minnesota, and Bisbee, Arizona.
