Scope and Contents

The collection contains class notes, notebooks, newspaper clippings, biographical material, correspondence, a photograph, sermons, and miscellaneous writings and manuscripts. Among the latter is a manuscript biography of "Adolf Fr. Th. Biewend" (1949). A preliminary inventory is available at CHI.

Biographical / Historical

Emil Martin Biegener was born on November 17, 1877 at Saint Andreasberg, Germany. After graduating from Saint John College, Winfield, Kansas he graduated from Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis in 1902. He received a D. Ps. degree from American University in Chicago and an Sacrae Theologiae Doctor degree from Webster University in Atlanta. He was ordained in 1902 and served parishes in Ferguson, Missouri; Elmhurst, Illinois; Strassburg, Illinois; Mount Vernon, Illinois; and Riverview, Missouri. He wrote biograhical articles for various magazines including the Concordia Historical Institute Quarterly. In 1903 he married Louise Steinkamp and had two sons, Cornelius and Ephraim. He died November 3, 1968.
