Scope and Contents
The collection deals primarily with his presidency of Concordia (Austin, Texas), the LCMS Board of Trustees, the Texas District Board of Mission Administration, the 45th Convention of the Texas District, and the LCMS Department of Public Relations. Biographical / Historical
George Beto was born on 19 January 1916. He graduated from Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis in 1939. From 1949 to 1959 he was the President of Concordia Lutheran College, Austin. And then until 1962 he served as the President of Concordia Seminary, Springfield. Since 1962, George J. Beto has served on a number of committees of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. He served on the Editorial Board for The Lutheran Witness and Der Lutheraner from 1961 forward. He was chairman of this board from 1963-1966. He served on the LC-MS Board for Public Relations from 1966-1976. He served as chairman for that board for 1968 and 1969 and Secretary for 1971-1972. He served as an institutional chaplain in 1976 at Huntsville, Texas. He retired from the active ministry in 1976.
