This congregation was organized on April 26, 1849. The first pastor was installed nad the first church was dedicated on May 5, 1850. That fall, Bethlehem Lutheran School was opened. The second church building was dedicated on December 12, 1858. The first school building was dedicated in 1872. Land for a new cemetery was purchased in 1885. Bethlehem became a member of the English District of the LCMS on October 22, 1888. The third church building was dedicated on October 29, 1893, and was destroyed by a fire on January 24, 1894. Bethlehem's first SUnday School session was held on May 14, 1894. A new church building was dedicated on April 17, 1895. Graduation of the first class of 8th graders from Bethlehem as a fully accredited school was in 1918. A tornado caused severe damage to the church and school buildings on September 29, 1927. The school waas rebuilt and dedicated on November 9, 1930. The dedication of the completely redecorated church was held on January 23, 1949, as an introduction fo Bethlehem Centennial services throughout 1949. The school closed in 1971 after 121 years.
