Biographical / Historical
Ottomar G. H. Cloeter was the son of the Rev. Ernst Ottomar Cloeter, the first missionary of the Missouri Synod to the Chippewa Indians in Minnesota. The son was born 29 April 1859 in Cass County, Minnesota. He graduated from Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis) in 1883 and served first as a traveling missionary in South Dakota. He was later pastor at Adair, Iowa, and Willow Creek, Minnesota. He was president of the Iowa District from 1900 to 1906. He died in Saint Paul, Minnesota, on 20 May 1949. He was survived by sons Richard and Arnold, both Missouri Synod pastors, and three daughters.
