Gustav A. Barth Papers
Scope and Contents
The collection contains a copy of Polycarp Leiser's "Von der ewigen Gnadenwahl und Verordnung Gottes qu dem ewigen Leben," two sermons from 1593 and 1598, published by the Luth. Concordia-Verlag in Saint Louis in 1880. The copy includes Barth's signature and marginal notations.

Biographical / Historical
Gustav A. Barth was born 18 June 1844 in Giesmannsdorf, Silesia. He studied at the preparatory school of Pastor Friedrich Brunn in Steeden and entered the practical seminary of the Missouri Synod in Saint Louis in 1866, completing his studies for the ministry in 1869. He served several parishes, the last being Zion Lutheran Church, Elberfeld, Indiana, for 24 years. He resigned because of health in 1915 and spent his final days with his son, Pastor G. Christian Barth, in Saint Louis. He died on 22 July 1917.
