Biographical / Historical
In early 1981, a number of Lutheran families who lived in and around Prairie Grove began to explore the possibilities of beginning a Lutheran Church west of Fayetteville. Many were members of Saint John, Fayetteville. Rev. Richard Claybaker helped establish a preaching station in Prairie Grove, which was an extension of Saint John, Fayetteville. The first worship service was held on April 26, 1981. This group purchased five acres of land on January 7, 1982. The name of Peace was selected on February 21, 1982. A Constitution and Articles of Incorporation were under development in April 1982, and the Constitution was approved, officers selected, and dual parish plans were finalized that May. This congregation was accepted as a member of the LCMS at the Mid-South District Convention on June 11, 1982. June 24, 1982 is the date of Incorporation. The purchase of the first building occurred on November 23, 1983. This building served the congregation for 23 years. The first service and dedication of the building were held on November 27, 1983. The organ was dedicated on December 18, 1983. A fellowship hall was dedicated on July 16, 1989. Peace celebrated their 20th anniversary on July 28, 2002. Ground was broken on February 13, 2005 for a new house of worship on the land the congregation had originally purchased back in 1982. The new building was dedicated on February 5, 2006. The 25th anniversary was celebrated in 2007. (This information was taken from the 25th anniversary booklet.) A closing date has not been made available to CHI.
