Under the guidance of Rev. Victor Atsinger, Pastor of Our Savior Lutheran CHurch in El Dorado, Mr. and Mrs. Davis Mortenson, who were attending that church, began looking into starting a Lutheran church in Crossett. After discovering there were a significant number of Lutherans in Crossett, this congregation began worshiping in the Chapel of Jones Funeral Home. This was their church home until their building was completed in 1969. The first worship service was conducted on July 26, 1964 with Rev. Atsinger officiating. The congregation decided to organize permanently in early 1965. The name of Saint John Lutheran Church was chosen. Later in 1965, the DIstrict Mission BOard decided that the triple parish of Faith, Magnolia, OUr Savior, El Dorado, and Saint John, Crossett needed to be divided. In the spring of 1966, Our Savior, El Dorado and Saint John, Crossett remained a dual parish and called a seminary graduate. A constitution was prepared in 1967. Plans began to build a church building. Saint John became a member of the LCMS at the first convention of the newly forned Mid-South District. The building plans for the church were accepted in the fall of 1968 and construction began in March 1969. The building was dedicated on November 9, 1969. This congregation closed in 2024.
