Biographical / Historical

The first worship service of this congregation was held on the first Sunday in June 1945 in the Claremont Opera House. Rev. Wm. H. Schramm, pastor of Saint John, Claremont, conducted the service. Pastor Bohrer, a synod official, helped organize this congregation. The first official meeting was held on November 29, 1945. The first item of business in 1946 was to become incorporated. This occurred on January 24, 1946. About this time, the congregation rented a different building. On March 19, 1946, drawings and plans for a church building were presented to the congregation. A basement would be built first, and the congregation would worship there until the rest of the building was complete. The congregation voted to officially call Rev. Schramm. The dedication of the basement was held on March 2, 1947. The completed church building was dedicated on March 18, 1956. Rev. A. L. Barry, future President of the LCMS, accepted a call to Peace and was installed on March 13, 1960. He served Peace until he received a call to Trinity, Trimont, Minnesota in 1962. Peace celebrated the 20th anniversary on June 27, 1965. Colored glass windows were dedicated at the 25th anniversary of the congregation on June 21, 1970. A new organ was purchased in 1983. About this time, Saint John decided they no longer wanted to be involved in a dual parish relationship with Peace. A new partnership was formed with Mount Moriah in Byron.
