Biographical / Historical

In 1931, Rev. Arthur Schmidt was called by the Southern California District of the LCMS as a "missionary general". He was instructed to make surveys of Ventura and other communities. As a result, it was decided to establish a mission station in Ventura. Pastor Schmidt's work led to the formal organization of First Lutheran on August 16, 1934. This congregation celebrated the 75th anniversary in 2010.
