Biographical / Historical

Adolf Frederick Earnest Saar was born on February 4, 1873 in Pembroke, Ontario, Canada. He attended seminary at Concordia Seminary, Springfield, Illinois and graduated in 1897. He had eight children, including Chaplain Werner R. Saar. He came to the United States in 1913, serving in several parishes in Ontario and New York. His last official ministerial act was baptizing his twin granddaughters, Margaret Anne and Mary Alice Saar on June 17, 1941. Rev. Saar died on July 8, 1941 at the age of 68.

Biographical / Historical

Werner R. Saar was born on January 8, 1911, the son of Rev. Adolf F. and Emma Saar. He graduated from Concordia Semiary, Saint louis, Missouri in 1936. He spent his youth in Buffalo, New York. While he served as a pastor in Buffalo, he conducted daily devotional programs on radio station KBIX. He served as a chaplain from 1938 - 1940 at the Muskogee V. A. Hospital. He was a chaplain in the U. S. Army from 1940 - 1960 during World War 2 and Korea. He then was chaplain at Saint John's Hospital, Saint Paul, Minnesota from 1960 - 1977. Rev. Saar died on December 8, 1991 at the age of 80.
