Biographical / Historical
Holger Gerhardt Cattau was born on June 6, 1912 in Columbus, Nebraska. He was the eldest child and only son of Herman J. and Anna S. Cattau (nee Rosche). Holger attended a Lutheran High School at the age of 14 to begin his ministerial training. He graduated from Concordia College (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) in 1932 and Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis, Missouri) in 1936. Later on in his education, was a Clinical Counselor and Instructor, Gowanda State Hospital (Helmuth, New York), 1955-1959 and Social Work Education, University of Buffalo (Buffalo, New York) 1954-1956. He married Olive A. Clausen on June 2, 1937. His first call was to Mount Olive Lutheran Church (Omaha, Nebraska). He served other churches in Nebraska, New York, and Michigan. He served in several Protestant chaplaincies in New York. He served in several positions to the Church at large and to Communities throughout his ministry. He also had radio and television ministry. He served as the Director of Public Relations for the Michigan District-LCMS from 1972 and was still serving in that capacity in 1976. He also was the Executive Editor of The Michigan Lutheran during that same time frame. His wife, Olive, preceded him in death in July 1980, and Rev. Cattau died on October 1, 1992.
