Oral History Collection of the Archives of Cooperative Lutheranism (LCUSA)
Scope and Contents
The collection contains duplicate transcripts of oral history interviews. The originals are at the Archives of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in Chicago, Illinois.
The focus of the first series of the collection was cooperative Lutheranism. However, consideration was given to the age of the persons being interviewed. Therefore, some interviews discuss church body actions. The focus of the second series is the formation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Commission for a New Lutheran Church (CNLC) that preceded its formation.

Biographical / Historical
The Archives of Cooperative Lutheranism began the Oral History Collection in 1976 in an effort to enrich its documentation of inter-Lutheran developments in this country since the turn of the century. It was recognized that interviews with individuals who played key roles in the creation of archival records would add a new dimension to the historical record.
A second oral history project documenting the individual histories of the merging churches that formed the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America was conceived in 1983 to preserve reflections of some of the leaders of The American Lutheran Church, Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches and Lutheran Church in America.
Both projects were made possible by major grants from the Aid Association for Lutherans.
