Biographical / Historical
Herman Harms was born on 10 June 1888 in Zahrenholz, Hanover, Germany. From 1902 to 1908 he attended Concordia College and Seminary of Hermannsburger Freikirche in Uelzen. He then came to America and graduated from Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis in 1909. He served as the vice-president (1924 to 1927) and as the president (1927 to 1935) of the Iowa District, president of the Iowa District East (1936 to 1938), and as vice-president (fourth, first, and second) of the Synod from 1938 to 1959. He died on 11 March 1978.
