Biographical / Historical
Saint Peter Lutheran Church was founded by members who formerly lived in the vicinity of Friedensau. The Rock Island Railroad ran its tracks through Deshler in 1886, causing an influx of Lutherans into Deshler. The church building was dedicated on February 20, 1888. On March 25, 1961, this church building which had just been remodeled and redecorated in 1960, burned to the ground. A new, larger building was built and dedicated on December 16, 1962, and still was the house of worship in 1988. Saint Peter celebrated their 100th anniversary in 1988.
