This collection consists of materials relating to Ruth Proft Dannehl's time in Hong Kong. Published items make up the majority of the materials, including tracts, worship bulletins, newsletters, etc. relating to the Chinese Lutheran Hour, Savior Lutheran Mission, Lutheran activity in Hong Kong. There is a large collection of Chinese language vocabulary cards and set of Elementary Chinese Flash Cards by Shau Wing Chan (Stanford University Press). There is also a Chinese Textbook for Student Nurses dated April 1959, two bilingual (Chinese / English) Good News New Testaments, and a Chinese Bible signed by Ruth Proft and dated, May 15, 1955.

Ruth Proft Dannehl was born in Mena [Arkansas] in 1918. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church where her father, Martin Henry Proft, served as organist. She attended Saint John Lutheran College (Winfield, Kansas) and earned a nursing degree from Washington University (Saint Louis, Missouri). She later earned a master's degree in Education from the University of Minnesota.

She served as a medical missionary and teacher in Kowloon, Hong Kong for over a decade. Later she served as Professor of Nursing at Gustavus Adolphus College (Saint Peter, Minnesota).

She died in 2010 and donated her body to the Medical School at the University of Minnesota. Her ashes were later interred in Mena, Arkansas.
