Biographical / Historical

The mother church of Trinity English, LaMoure was Zion, Dean Township, five miles west of LaMoure. Zion was organized in 1890. In January 1939, Zion resolved to conduct Lenten services in LaMoure. By that October, there was a considerable discussion on placing a candidate in LaMoure. Then in April 1940, establishment of a mission station in LaMoure was discussed. The culmination of these discussions occurred on March 30, 1941. The two congregations worked together for many years, sharing a pastor. More people were joining Trinity English. Zion disbanded in 1955. Trinity English became a member of the LCMS in 1942. Trinity English worshipped in the Methodist church building and the Presbyterian church building in 1945 and 1946. Trinity English purchased the used Zion Lutheran Church building in Grand Rapids in addition to some land in September 1945. The Grand Rapids building was moved onto this property by the end of 1945. A new church building, beginning with the basement, began in September 1948. The dedication of the second church building was on March 26, 1950. The building was renovated in the early 1970s, and the dedication took place on June 9, 1974. The congregation celebrated its 35th anniversary on May 2, 1976 and 45th anniversary on April 6, 1986.
