Biographical / Historical

One of the pastors of the South Wisconsin District, Rev. Otto, asked the elders of Our Redeemer, Delavan, Wisconsin to start a mission in the Lake Geneva area. In 1991, a committee of eight district churches started the mission which became Gloria Dei. The first worship service was held on June 8, 1991 at the Lake Geneva YMCA. In February 1992, Rev. Richard Boeck drove from Milwaukee each Sunday to conduct services. At that time, he was a returning Gulf War Chaplain without a church call. In April, the group moved to the Horticultural Hall in downtown Lake Geneva for services. In 1998, one of the members became aware of a vacant church for rent. This building was owned by the Assembly of God, and Gloria Dei rented it beginning in November 1998. The building was purchased by the congregation, and much remodeling and painting was done over five years by congregation members. The 10th Anniversary of Gloria Dei was celebrated on August 5, 2001. Mortgage Burning occurred on March 11, 2018. This congregation closed in 2019.
