Biographical / Historical
The LCMS sent Rev. Carroll A. Nelson to start a mission church in this area in September 1963. Redemption Lutheran Church was chosen as the name. The first worship services were held in November 1963 in the Sterling Elementary School Gynasium, and plans began to build a church building. The new worship facility was dedicated in July 1964. In September 1987, the Planning Council was organized to study present conditions and potential for church growth in the next five years. There was quite a growth potential (20,000 unchurched), so a larger worship facility became a necessity. The groundbreaking ceremony was held in November 1990 to launch the Building program with the theme "Upon This Rock". The facility and articles of worship were dedicated in April 1993. A capital improvement project began in July 1997 to remodel the fellowship hall, upgrade the heating system, and install security doors. In September 1998 - May 1999, Redemption Preschool was opened for 3 and 4 year olds. This congregation closeded on June 27, 2021.
