Biographical / Historical
In early summer 1950, Rev. Bruce Bartholomew was called by the Mission Board of the Michigan District to establish a new congregation. A portable chapel had been built on the property. The Dedication Service took place on September 17, 1950. The congregation was organized at a special meeting on November 5, 1950, with the name of Saint Timothy. Charter membership in the LCMS was granted on November 22, 1951. Ground was broken for a new church building on March 11, 1956, due to growth. Cornerstone-laying was held on May 20, 1956, and the building was dedicated on January 6, 1957. In 1958 the Voters' Assembly voted to begin a Christian Day School. The final plans for the Educational Building were approved by the Church Extension Fund on April 10, 1966. Groundbreaking was in May, with cornerstone-laying in August. Dedication of the Saint Timothy Christian Day School was held on October 16, 1966. A new Allen Digital Computer Organ was installed right before the Christmas season in 1971. News arrived in June 1972 that Saint Timothy's adopted missionary in New Guinea, Rev. Victor Heinicke, had died. This congregation merged with Redford Lutheran Church in 2009.
