Biographical / Historical

At the turn of the 20th century, a number of Lutherans immigrated from Poland to Dundalk, Maryland. They were without a church due to their lack of ability to communicate in English. When one of their group was fatally kicked by a mule, Rev. F. Sattelmeier came from Scranton, Pennsylvania to minister to the group and continued to conduct services occasionally in Polish. The pastor urged the group to organize and call its own pastor. Christ Lutheran Church was established on March 20, 1904. Prior to the purchase of an acre of land in 1906, the small congregation worshipped in members' homes. In 1907, a church and parsonage were built. On March 14, 1920, a new church building was dedicated. In 1923, an English service was added to the Polish service. In 1952, the Annex and new heating plant were completed and the chapel was renovated. On September 2, 1962, a new large church building was dedicated. The 75th Anniversary was celebrated on April 29, 1979. The closing service of this congregation was held on November 10, 2019.
