Biographical / Historical
In the fall of 1977, A group of LCMS members became concerned about the lack of an LCMS congregation for residents of River Forest, north Oak Park, and south Elmwood Park,Illinois, and to the students of what was then Concordia Teachers College. After meeting with Northern Illinois District officials and receiving permission from Concordia to rent worship/educational space on their campus, the congregation was formed with the name of Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church.
The first service was held on Easter Sunday, March 26, 1978. The Constitution and By-Laws were adopted on July 9, 1978. The congregation was blessed with a full-time pastor, Rev. Paul Lassanske, for two years, 1983-1985. Otherwise, at least until 1998, the congregation was served by the strong pastoral leadership of interim pastors.
At a voter’s meeting on October 8, 2017, the decision was made to close the congregation as of March 1. 2018. The final worship service was held on December 17, 2017.
