Biographical / Historical
on 1887, the people of New Rockford, North Dakota were served by a traveling pastor, Rev. Frederick Wenger, who served the triple parish of New Rockford, Courtney, and Cooperstown. He served for 14 years. In 1901, Rev. Lueker became the first pastor of the congregation, and the first service of the congregation was held on January 27, 1901. The congregation was officially organized as Emmanuel Evangelaical Lutheran Church on July 28, 1901. The construction of the church building began in June 1902, and the sanctuary was dedicated on January 1, 1903. The congregation has been serviced by a total of 32 pastors, vacancy pastors, and vicars (as of 2001). Emmanuel became a dual parish with Grace Lutheran in February 1953, and this would last a number of years. A basement was added to the building in 1951, and remodeling of the interior of the building had to be done eventually due to damage that was done when the basement was dug. In 1974 the back room was also redone. More remodeling occurred during the 1970s. In June 1965, New Rockford and Fessenden became a dual parish until 1988. Fessenden then closed. Emmanuel closed in 2016.
