This collection consists of multiple sermons written for each Sunday of the church year, as well as festival days, copies of speeches/presentations, articles authored by Rev. Schmelder, information concerning the walkout from Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis, Missouri), course syllabi, and ecclesiastical art projects.

Biographical / Historical

Rev. William J. Schmelder was born on August 5, 1933 in Bristol, Connecticut. He received his bachelor's degree in 1954 from Concordia College (Bronxville, New York), and earned his Master of Divinity and Master of Sacred Theology degrees from Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis, Missouri) in 1959 and 1960. He served as associate pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Saint Charles, Missouri: 1960-62); pastor at Gethsemane Lutheran Church (Fort Wayne, Indiana: 1962-69); pastor at Saint John Lutheran Church in Covina, California (1969-71); and pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church (Casa Grande, Arizona) and Christ Lutheran Church (Coolidge, Arizona: 1972-74). In 1974, he joined the faculty of Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis, Missouri) serving as associate professor, registrar, and chaplain. He excelled at teaching the art of preaching. He retired in 1995. He also assisted at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Olivette, Missouri) for more than 30 years. Rev. Schmelder died on June 18, 2018.
