Biographical / Historical

Redeemer Lutheran Church and School was founded in the summer of 1933 by Rev. J. F. Boerger and Saint John Lutheran Church of Racine. A rented store building was first used for worship services and a summer school. Land was purchased for a church building in fall 1933 and the building was dedicated on December 21, 1933. Formal organization of the congregation was completed during fall 1936. In 1951 plans were accepted to build a new church building. Groundbreaking took place on July 22, 1951 and the cornerstone was laid on November 4, 1951. Dedication took place on February 1, 1953. The school closed in June 1963 and was rented to the Belle School for the mentally retarded. Redeemer then became a self-sustaining congregation. Four acres of land north of the church was donated on December 29, 1963 by Mr. and Mrs. Otto Liebnow and designated as a site for a new school. This property has since been sold. Redeemer and Christ the King formed a dual parish in the early 1980s. The congregation closed on August 30, 2015.
