Biographical / Historical
In 1925, the English District of the LCMS in the Detroit area placed Rev. Scaer, pastor of Redeemer, Birmingham in charge of starting a mission church that became Hazel Park Evangelical Lutheran Church. By September 1926, as preparations were being made to build a church building to house this congregation, worship services were held in the Hazel Park boxing arena. Property was identified in 1927. Due to growth, The first chapel became too small. Additional lots were purchased in 1950, and the new church building was dedicated on September 20, 1953. The mortgage was retired in 1963. In 2001, a building addition, with a new mortgage, was built. The congregation changed its name to New Life Lutheran Church after 2009. The congregation closed on January 30, 2015.
