Scope and Contents
The collection focuses mainly on Rev. Fey's work in African-American missions. It includes books, manuscripts, papers, and photos. The books include "Piney Woods and Its Story" and "The Spirit of Piney Woods", both by Laurence C. Jones; "History of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People" by Robert L. Jack; and "Social Conditions of the Negro in the Hill District of Pittsburgh" compiled by Ira De A. Reid.

Biographical / Historical
John William Christopher Fey was born in Saint Louis, Missouri on December 29, 1903. He graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary (Springfield, Illinois) in 1929. He was ordained and installed at Saint Philip Lutheran Church (Saint Louis, Missouri), and started missions in Kirkwood and Saint Louis. He then served in Buffalo, New York; Bradford, Pennsylvania; Port Arthur, Texas, and Geneva, New York. The last parish he served was in Kenmore, New York, retiring in 1979. Among his many accomplishments, Rev. Fey took the greatest pride in his work to create and strengthen African-American congregations.
