General
Lutheran Organizations with a national scope are filed in a special section on the second floor of the Historical Library stacks. Those for which the Institute has only a small amount of material are filed in general boxes at the beginning of the section in alphabetical order by the name of the organization. Organizations for which larger collections are held follow these general boxes in alphabetical order by name of organization on the open shelves.
Auxiliary organizations of the LCMS that involve large collections of materials (International Lutheran Laymen's League, International Lutheran Women's Missionary League and Walther League) are included in this same physical area of the Library (second floor, aisle 6) but not in the alphabetical arrangement with other organizations. Auxiliaries of other Lutheran church bodies are generally filed with the materials for those church bodies.
Organizations that involve official cooperative activities between synods are located on the first floor in a section on inter-Lutheran organizations. Unofficial organizations that relate to a specific synod or Lutheran church body with an educational or "political" purpose are generally filed with that church body.
This section also includes material from Lutheran blogs filed under the title of the blog.
