Biographical / Historical
Paul M. Volz was born on 5 May 1931 in Willmar, Minnesota. He attended Concordia College in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and graduated from Concordia Seminary in Saint Louis in 1956. From 1956-1964, Volz served as missionary in Nigeria. From 1964-1975, he worked with Lutheran World Federation Broadcasting Service (Radio Voice of the Gospel from 1964-1970 at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Television in Africa Survey (1970-1971) at Nairobi, Kenya; Communication Consultant (1972-1974) in Nairobi) and as area representative in East Africa for Norwegian Church Aid of Oslo, Norway. He served as Secretary for District and Parish Activities for the Board of Social Ministry and World Relief from 1981-1985. He served as Executive Director of Lutheran Bible Translators from 1985-1990, and as chaplain at Cornell University from 1990-1996. He then served as interim pastor in congregations in Oklahoma and Iowa.
