Scope and Contents
THis collection is manily composed of Rev. Vajds'a sermons that are organized by Book of the Bible, chapter and verse. There is one folder containing biographical/general information on him. There are also copies of the publication "The Expositor" covering the period from December 1946 - November 1958.

Biographical / Historical
Jaroslav Vajda was born 29 April 1919 in Lorain, Ohio. After graduating from Concordia Junior College in Fort Wayne in 1938, he enrolled at Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis. He graduated in 1944, and was ordained at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in East Chicago, Indiana in 1945. He served congregations of the Slovak Evangelical Lutheran Church (SELC) in Craseville, Pennsylvania, Alexandria, Indiana, and Tarentum-Brackenridge, Pennsylvania. He was called to serve as editor of This Day Magazine, published by Concordia Publishing House, in 1963. He edited the magazine until it was discontinued in 1971, and then served as book editor at Concordia Publishing House. He was well known as a hymnwriter and authored more than 170 hymn texts. He died 10 May 2008 and is buried at Concordia Cemetery in St. Louis.
