Biographical / Historical
Jaroslav Vajda was born 29 April 1919 in Lorain, Ohio. After graduating from Concordia Junior College in Fort Wayne in 1938, he enrolled at Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis. He graduated in 1944, and was ordained at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in East Chicago, Indiana in 1945. He served congregations of the SELC in Craseville, Pennsylvania, Alexandria, Indiana, and Tarentum-Brackenridge, Pennsylvania. He was called to serve as Editor of "This Day" Magazine, published by Concordia Publishing House, in 1963. He edited the magazine until it was discontinued in 1971, and then served as book editor at Concordia Publishing House. He was well known as a hymnwriter and authored more than 170 hymn texts. He died 10 May 2008.
