Torger Andreas Torgerson Collection
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of a photo album with pictures of faculty and staff from his time as a student at Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis, 1862-1865. The photos are individual images slipped into slots in the pages of the album. Most are identified.

Biographical / Historical
Torger Andreas Torgerson was born 26 January 1838 at Nes Iron Works near Skien, Norway of Jens Jacob Torgerson (b. 13 Dec 1810; d. 21 July 1911) and Torberg (Anderson). He immigrated in 1852 and attended Concordia College, Saint Louis, 1858-1861; Fort Wayne, 1861-1862; Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis, 1862-1865. He served as pastor at Somber near Lake Mills, Iowa, 1865-1906. (The district first served by him was in 1902 served by 17 pastors of the Norwegian Synod.) He was secretary of the Iowa District, 1876-1889; vice-president, 1889-1894; president, 1894-1906. He was also a member of the Iowa District Home Mission Committee, 1879-1906, and secretary of the Church Council, 1890-1906. He was a temporary theology professor at Luther Seminary, 1881-1882. He was author of "Merkelige Tildragelser," 1870; "Om den nu brugelige Dans," 1896. He married Dina Anderson in 1866. He died 7 January 1906.
