Biographical / Historical
Martin Sommer was born on 31 March 1869 in Bleheim, Maryland. He graduated from Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis in 1891. Upon graduation he became the pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, Saint Louis. From 1914 to 1919 he served as president of the English District. In 1920 Sommer became a professor of homiletics at Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis. He was the author of several books and served as co-editor of the "Lutheran Witness" from 1914 until 1949.
