Biographical / Historical
Martin John Schmidt was born on 9 April 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio. After graduating from Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky, Martin enrolled at Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, Illinois. He graduated from the Seminary in 1953, and was ordained and installed as Pastor of Saint Peter Lutheran Church in Orchard, Nebraska. In 1955, Schmidt accepted a call to serve a dual parish in Armour and Corsica, South Dakota. In 1960, he was called to serve as an instructor at Concordia Collegiate Institute in Bronxville, New York. He returned to the parish in 1965, and served Saint Luke Lutheran Church in Paterson, New Jersey until 1974, when he was called to teach at Concordia Seminary in Saint Louis. He returned to the parish in 1977, and served First Lutheran Church in Holyoke, Massachusetts until his retirement in 1988.
