Biographical / Historical
Born 6 January 1827 (Goettingen, Hannover); educated privately and at the Hanover teachers' seminary; immigrated to the United States in 1848; teacher (Baltimore, Maryland) 1848; studied theology at the seminary (Fort Wayne, Indiana) 1852-1853; assistant to H. C. Schwan (Cleveland, Ohio) 1853; later pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church (Cleveland); president of the Evangelical Lutheran Teachers Seminary (Addison, Illinois) 1864-1879. He died 15 January 1879.
