LCMS. Mission Self Study and Survey
Dates
- Creation: 1963 - 1965
Biographical / Historical
The idea of studying the way the LCMS handled its mission outreach was initiated with a "Proposal for a Mission Self-Study and Survey with a Full-Time Director", which was prepared by the Division of Missions in February 1963. The Board of Directors, along with all mission board of the Synod, approved of the proposal. The Board of Directors asked Dr. Martin L. Kretzmann to undertake the study and he started the work in September 1963. This self-study and survey, which Kretzmann considered incomplete, led to the document known as "The Mission Affirmations", which was adopted at the LCMS Convention in Detroit, Michigan, 1965.
