Biographical / Historical
Walter Roehrs was born on 24 August 1901 in Clinton, Wisconsin. He graduated from Concordia College (Milwaukee) in 1920 and Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis) in 1925. He continued his education at the University of Chicago, earning his MA in 1926. He was ordained at Grace Lutheran Church (Western Ridge, Illinois) in June 1926. He served there until 1930. He then became a professor at Saint Paul College (Concordia, Missouri). He married Louise Winkelman on 1 January 1934 and received his PhD later that year. In 1941 he was called to teach at Concordia Teachers College (River Forest). In 1944 he was called to Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis) where he remained active until 1968. He died on 29 February 1996.
