Biographical / Historical

On October 5, 1947, Resurrection Chapel was dedicated as a branch church of Saint Thomas and Saint Peter, with regular services beginning on October 12, 1947. Resurrection was organized as a congregation on April 18, 1948. A Christian Day School started with grades 1-4 and later expanded to add grades 5 and 6. The school was discontinued in 1950 due to financial issues. A parsonage was purchased in 1951, and a site on Kelly Road was purchased in January 1956. Groundbreaking for the building occurred on August 18, 1957 and the building dedication service was held on June 29, 1958. Resurrection became a self-supporting congregation in 1959. 1962 was designated "Anniversary Year", in observance of the 15th anniversary of the congregation and 5th anniversary of dedication of the new church building - October 5, 1962-June 16, 1963. The 25th anniversary was celebrated in 1972. A planning committee was formed in 1987 to check the feasibility of adding on to the church. The mortgage was also paid off that year. Ground was broken for a new education wing on March 25, 1990. It was dedicated on November 4, 1990 as the "Anton Jehn Educational WIng". The indebtedness for this wing was retired in 1995. 1997 marked Resurrection's 50th anniversary and 40th anniversary of the building. The 60th anniversary of the congregation and 50th anniversary of the building were celebrated in 2007. Resurrection's closing service took place on August 13, 2017.
