Biographical / Historical

William J. Reiss was born 5 December 1909 at Prairie du Rocher, Illinois, the son of John and Elizabeth (nee Grassinger) Reiss. He graduated from Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis, Missouri) in 1936 and served in the pastoral ministry from 1938 to 1977, when he retired. His areas of service included a parish at Carrollton, Illinois, and active duty military chaplaincy beginning in World War 2. He served as executive secretary of the Division for Service to Military Personnel of the Lutheran Council in the USA from 1967 to 1977. He died 19 January 1993 at Valparaiso, Indiana.
