Biographical / Historical
J. A. O. Preus was born on 8 January 1920 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He graduated from Luther Seminary, Minneapolis in 1945 before serving as a pastor in Minnesota. In 1958 he became an assistant professor at Concordia Seminary, Springfield, and in 1962, he became its president. From 1969 until 1981, he served as the president of the Missouri Synod. He died on 13 August 1994.
