Biographical / Historical
This commission was organized as the "Bureau of Information on Secret Orders" in 1926, to study the lodge question [Proceedings, 1926, p.146-149]. In the 1930s an investigation of Lehre und Wehre and Der Lutheraner from their inception to the 1900s was made to ascertain the Synod's historical position on Masonry [Proceedings, 1938, p.339]. In the 1950s the name was changed to "Commission on Fraternal Organizations."
In 1959 the Commission requested a full-time director, and on June 15, 1961 Mr. Jacob Heckert became the comission's first full-time secretary.
