Biographical / Historical

Frederick E. Pasche was born on 8 April 1872 in Bayersberg, Brandenburg, Germany. He immigrated to the United States with his parents and settled in Mayville, Wisconsin, in 1881. He attended Concordia College, Milwaukee, from 1885 to 1889; Concordia College, Fort Wayne, Indiana, from 1889 to 1891; and was graduated from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in 1895.

As parish pastor Pasche served in the following locations: Trinity Congregation, Butte, Nebraska, 1895-1899; Spenser, Nebraska, 1895-1903; Fairfax, South Dakota, 1897-1899; Sioux Falls, South Dakota, 1899-1905; Garretson and Granite, Iowa, 1903-1904; Webster, South Dakota, 1905-1908; Horton and Alberta, Minnesota, 1908-1921; St. John Lutheran Church, Atwater, Minnesota, 1921-1929; and St. Paul Lutheran Church, Eden Valley, and St. John Lutheran Church, Kimball, Minnesota, 1929-1940. During his 45 years of missionary and ministerial work, Pasche also taught parochial school for 32 years.

Pasche was a knowledgeable astronomer and an author. He wrote two sizeable books (Christian Philosophy on Life) and a booklet on astronomy.

Pasche also authored two large devotional books: Daily Bread and Things Above; a series of articles covering 90 pages, “The Road to Success, or Self Improvement,” published in seven issues of the Theological Quarterly; and many other articles and sermons that have been published in periodicals of the Missouri Synod.

On 8 August 1895 Pasche married Martha Wiedenheft. Their union was blessed with twelve children: Frieda, Theodore, Gertrude, Esther, Paul, Fred, Walter, Arthur, Reuben, Carl, Martin and Edward.

Frederick E. Pasche died on 21 May 1954 in Hancock, Minnesota, with funeral services conducted 24 May 1954 at Zion Church, Horton, Minnesota.
