Biographical / Historical

Pastor Nickel, son of Pastor Martin Nickel and Emma nee Homann, was born in Onekema, Michigan on March 12, 1904. After completing his elementary education in the Lace and Lyons, Illinois Christian Day Schools, he attended the Lutheran Institute for 1 1/2 years. He then enrolled in Concordia College of Milwaukee and graduated in 1923. After his graduation from Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis) in 1927, he was ordained and installed as Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bessemer, Michigan, where he had spent one year of his Seminary training as a vicar. Prior to his ministry at Jehovah Evangelical Lutheran Church (Chicago), he also served parishes in Eau Claire and Altoona, Wisconsin and Aurora, Illinois.
