Biographical / Historical
The National Lutheran Council, a cooperative body of Lutheran synods, existed from 1918 to 1966. The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod was not a member, but in the late 1950s and early 1960s the LCMS engaged in some cooperative projects and consultations with the NLC. This led to the formation of the Lutheran Council in the USA in 1967 in which the LCMS held membership along with The American Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Church in America. The latter two church bodies were mergers of the various synods that had been members of the NLC.
