Scope and Contents
The collection consists of a copybook of extracts from the Loci Theologici of Martin Chemnitz dated 1847 while he was a student at Altenburg; also notes on Hebrews from G. H. Loeber, January 1847; and a Latin treatise dated 31 March 1853.

Biographical / Historical
Christoph Carl Metz was born 19 August 1831 at Strassfurt, Saxony, the son of Johann Bernhard and Johanna Christiane (nee Koch) Metz. He attended the log cabin Concordia College, Altenburg, Missouri, and graduated from Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis, in 1853. He was ordained at Saint Joseph, Missouri, on 17 April 1853 and served as pastor there and at New Orleans, Louisiana, and Jacksonville, Illinois, until his death from a pulminary disease on 6 November 1868 at the age of 37. He is buried at Jacksonville, Illinois.
